2022 COMPANION
48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Syrah, 10% Petit Verdot

Tasting Notes: This harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Petit Verdot presents a captivating tapestry of aromas and flavors. Black and blue fruits mix with savory Kalamata olives, and delicate rose water florals. New oak from three distinct cooperages adds a dynamic bouquet of black coffee, vanilla bean, and sandalwood. The wine opens with the inviting softness of supple tannins and juicy acidity. Playful notes of cherry cola, allspice, and earthy black tea leaves gradually unfold on the palate. The wine is beautifully round with a texture reminiscent of cocoa powder that carries the wine’s richness seamlessly.
Winemaking Notes: This blend brings together 100% Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, five Syrah clones, and a single, small-lot fermentation of Petit Verdot. Sourced from Arbor Oaks Vineyard, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were harvested 18 days apart to capture optimal ripeness for each. All grapes were cluster and berry sorted before fermenting in small, closed-top, stainless steel tanks. A single yeast strain, Enartis D20, was used to ferment each variety due to its ability to produce balanced tannin and dark, structured wines.
Wine Critic Jeb Dunnuck says, "Based on 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Syrah, and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Companion evokes darker currants, leather, cedar pencil, mint, and tobacco notes. Aged 18 months in 100% new French oak, it’s medium to full-bodied and nicely balanced, with good acidity and ne, ripe tannins. This beautifully balanced, serious wine offers lots of ripeness and will keep for a solid decade. Drink 2025-2037." 94 Points
