Tasting notes: The 2022 Primitivo exhibits a nose that seems to defy gravity, with notes of tamarind, cherry cola, and raspberry liqueur soaring from the glass with effortless strength. Lightly roasted meats, sandalwood, fleur de sel, and nori bring the aroma back to earth, while wild berries, compote, and spiced rhubarb pie continue the energetic display on the palate. The wine is juicy with vibrant acidity at first sip, with round and persistent, soft tannin. The finish is long and fragrant, evoking a hints of cracked peppercorn and a stroll through a sun-warmed patch of wild raspberries.
Winemaking Notes: This estate Primitivo was picked at optimal sugar and acid levels in early September and was carefully hand sorted immediately after picking. It was fermented in a single Macro bin with twice daily punchdowns to ensure a moderate rate of skin and seed extraction. After the 16 day ferment, the Primitivo was pressed then placed directly into neutral 225L and 265L barrels where it aged for the next 18 months. Before bottling, a small percentage of Syrah was added for texture and depth.
