Plush, powerful, and undeniably elegant, the 2021 Reserve Syrah captures the essence of this remarkable vintage. Bursting with savory aromas of graphite, black olive, and grilled game, it opens to deeper notes of black currant, ripe plums, and juniper berries. Undertones of wild sage, smoky bacon fat, and espresso mingle with a rich core of blueberry pie.

On the palate, this Syrah is full-bodied and vibrant, with a luxurious, layered mouthfeel. Its refined tannins provide a velvety texture, while balanced acidity adds a gentle vibration that enlivens the flavors and carries them through a long, complex finish. Concentrated yet seamlessly balanced, the wine shows incredible depth and structure, evolving beautifully with every sip and promising further elegance with age.

Wine Profile
Winemaker Notes
Three clones of Syrah were selected for the 2021 Reserve Syrah blend, all harvested between September 30th and October 2nd, a short period due to the long, even growing season. Each offers a different personality, from dark and robust, to nuanced, vibrant, and slightly wild. Each contributes an element that creates a round, complete wine with intriguing texture and flavor. Three different cooperages, Atelier, Ermitage, and François Frères comprise the 60% new, French oak used for this wine, each matched with the unique character of each clone and providing more layers of complexity and balance to the final blend. 40% once-used, French oak brings additional richness to the wine, while allowing the natural aroma of Syrah to persist.

Other Notes
The 2021 vintage was characterized by more moderate weather patterns compared to the previous vintage. Large diurnal shifts were observed through the entire growing season, with heatwaves typically lasting no more than 3-4 days, and top temperatures rarely exceeding 95F for long periods. Rain in the pre-season was still on the lower end of the typical range, offering naturally smaller crop and exceptionally small berries. Nearly every variety demonstrated intense and concentrated aromas, with firm but full and round tannins, making for ageworthy and memborable wines.
